The Chicharones are composed of Vancouver’s Josh Martinez and Sleep from Oldominion, both ‘nineties men’, trying to keep it real in these ludicrous times. Named after the crispy deep fried pork skins coated in spices, chicharrones, the musical version, are tearing up the mouths and hearts of all who come in contact.With a heavy emphasis on melody and old fashioned solid songwriting, Sleep and Josh Martinez have created an incredibly cohesive group that features strong lyrics, fluid storytelling and catchy hooks that’ll get stuck in your head like gum on shoes. Unlike most groups, Sleep and Josh blend their vastly different skills together with ease, each pushing the other to raise the bar conceptually, musically and rhythmically. It is a refreshing change to hear a group that actually acts like one, sharing the stage as easily as they share the hot raps.
And they’ve released a debut EP called Boss Hogs which has spread the word about these guys all over the place. In addition to having played over 500 shows together, in every major and most minor cities in North America, the Chicharones are attracting considerable attention in Europe, having inked a deal to put release their full length with Bella Union/V2 in 2005 as well as an extensive touring and summer festival dates to back it up. So get in now. The Chicharones are gonna be the biggest thing since Y2K. Featuring an extraordinary blend of party rap, brilliant melody, unstoppable hooks and a genuine hilarity found nowhere else, the Chicharones are only getting better.
