Onry Ozzborn is an enduring veteran talent who is garnering alot
of attention in the notoriously saturated hiphop market. One of
the premiere emcees among the sizable roster of Northwest
powerhouse Oldominion, Onry is not content to simply rhyme.
Crafting beats that possess a taut, urgent desperation, this
journeyman hiphop craftsman has forged a signature sound that
is most often characterized as dark and eerie.
With artistic influences that draw heavily from pop culture, the
new release wall at Blockbuster and his own peers as well,
this self described music lover explains that his musical inspiration
comes from such varied artists as Stevie Nicks, Rakim and Portishead.
With such uncommon fair fuleing his creative outlook, it's no wonder
He can cover so much ground on one album. Shuttling from tripped
out Eurythmics-cum-Black-Sheepesque club offereings like "Venom"
to stark introspective headphone joints like "Sidewalk Ends" to plain
old neck breakin' bangers like "2000 BC", Onry Ozzborn comes across
as effortlessly versatile and always intriguing. Listeners find themselves
committing numerous rewinds for closer examination of his enigmatic lyrics.
Asked about his intent in music, He's quick to point out that it's no more
complicated than striving to create timeless music. Onry Ozzborn is a man
who holds himself to the standard that if it doesn't still rock in 20 years,
then it never really did.
With regional underground classics like "Knightengale" and "Owleye"
already under his belt as well as the "Norman" and “Grayskul” projects
Onry has already burst on the scene with no small amount of work
already under his belt. In addition to these accomplishments, His nationwide
solo debut, "Alone" has peaked at #2 on CMJ's hiphop chart, surrounded by
the likes of Outkast, Nas, The Wu and The X-ecutioners.
Ever at home on stage, Onry has toured the country a number of times and
shared the stage with such notables as Xzhibit, The Wu, Snoop Dog, as well
as seminal underground hiphop favorites Def Jux, Rhymesayers and Anticon,
and a performance of special note, at an already fabled Seattle show in which
Onry was recruited by the likes of legendary hiphop architects, Ice-T and
Kool Keith to perform The Ultramagnetic MCs classic, "Poppa Large" on stage
at The Experience Music Project, where Onry and Kool Keith spontaneously
erupted into an impromtu trade off rendition of the song, whipping the crowd
into a moshpit frenzy.
Onry Ozzborn's development as an artist continues to grow as does his fan base.
In 10 Years, He sees himself working with the development of other up and comers
and it's hard to imagine why he wouldn't be in a position to do so.
