FOR BOOKING INFO@OLDOMINION.NET |
Boom Bap Project stands for preservation of hip-hop music and culture in its rawest form. You want that soft rap with an r&b crooner on the hook and the accompanying irritating melodies? You want that materialistic, uninventive rap complete with velour suits, platinum chains, and 24-inch rims on the rented Rolls? You want that suburban gun/drug rap complete with falsified jail refences, overemphasizing the benefits of marijuana, alcohol, and crack? If your answer is no, the Boom Bap Project is probably for you. The trio of MC's Karim (aka Nightclubber Lang), Destro Destructo and DJ Scene combine with the best producers in the world to bring you the boom bap sector of the Oldominion massive.
"Circumstance Dictates" EP was the Boom Bap Project's debut and introduced the world to the aggressive, raw, straight-ahead and energetic sound of the BBP. Karim and Destro got help from up and coming Seattle, WA based producers Jake One and Vitamin D, who are well on their way to becoming two of the biggest producers in the game. Through that release the BBP were able to tour the country with such artists as Zion I, the Micranots, Foreign Legion, One Many Army, Qwazaar, and of course Oldominion. The extensive tour schedule also included performing at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, UT alongside such esteemed acts as the Roots, Talib Kweli, Common, and Erykah Badu.
Through their travels and experiences, BBP has earned many allies, fans, and connections. In late 2001 they recruited the Northwest's illest turntablist, DJ Scene, to replace DJ Tre. DJ Scene went on to win the 2002 DMC NW Regional in Seattle and went to NYC to represent the Northwest against the US' finest. BBP dropped the critically acclaimed "Trade Remix" by Vitamin D early this year, and quickly went to #1 on most college and mixshow charts across the country. They also started work on their up and coming LP titled Reprogram.
2003 has been filled with studio dates and writing. The new LP is shaping up to be incredible. Highlights so far are the production, which is amazing, and the guests, which include Dilated Peoples, Blackalicious, DJ Vin Roc, their crew Oldominion, One Man Army, and the Lifesavas. The album is definitely harder than anything you may be expecting, and shows a growth of the unit not only as MC's, but as complete songmakers. If you've seen BBP perform, their stage show ranks up there with the best of them, and with this new album, the crew matches their stage intensity in the studio. Lookout for the new 12" "Get Up, Get Up" b/w "Odds on Favorite" f/ L*Roneous and "Net Worth" f/ Pep Love from Hieroglypics in December 03'. Look for the new album from Boom Bap Project in Spring 2005 available on Rhymesayers ent..
